Online Advocacy Training for Mountain Partnership Asia Pacific members*

Online Advocacy Training: Introduction

An effective on-ground advocacy for Sustainable Mountain Development concept is one of the key activities of the MPS. This needs to be done by the members themselves in their own context rather than imposing ideas from the outside. Thus, supporting the MP Member capacity building process in advocacy is one of MPS APDH's focuses of work with its members. The multi-dimensional nature of the advocacy process requires integration of multiple aspects of development issues in mountain regions: at policy as well as at local village levels for addressing a variety of challenges and obstacles to sustainability in mountain regions. And with members of civil society organizations working in the forefront, the MPS APDH perceives the need to provide capacity building support training that would equip MP members with the required tools and techniques. Strengthening members' capacity and equipping them with latest approaches and tools will help us to undertake the advocacy work that is genuinely locally designed and specific to the cultural and political contexts of the countries in the region.

Online Advocacy Training: Objectives

The planned Online Advocacy Training (OAT) is expected to introduce the basic concepts of advocacy, supported with on-the-ground experience, case studies on techniques and methodologies for putting forward change agendas, and serve as the exchange and learning platform for Mountain Partnership members in order to enhance their capacity of advocating and building up advocacy core groups in their relevant constituencies at local and regional levels.

Overall Objective:

1. To contribute towards the capacity building of Mountain Partnership members from Asia Pacific in advocacy strategies for sustainable mountain development at national and regional levels;

2. To build and to enhance skills of regional members in advocacy by familiarising them with latest updates about advocacy strategies;

3. To create a platform for sharing experiences and exchange of good practices of effective advocacy; and

4. To replicate ICIMOD/SLPR run regional trainings on Advocacy by using the E-learning tools and platforms.
