Mountain Partnership members meet in Africa

08.02.2013

African members of the Mountain Partnership will meet in Kigali, Rwanda on 20 February for a regional meeting on the sustainable development of Africa’s mountains.

Entitled Enhancing the Mountain Partnership in Africa for Sustainable Development in African Water Towers, the one-day meeting is taking place ahead of the wider Regional Great Lakes Stakeholders Forum in the Rwandan capital.

The main objective of the meeting is to continue building an African agenda and a strong Mountain Partnership constituency on the sustainable development of mountain ecosystems while also contributing to climate change and water discussions.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for participants to share views and experiences on the current state of sustainable development in mountain regions in Africa and to discuss joint activities, future challenges and opportunities.

The meeting has been organized by the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) jointly with The Mountain Partnership Secretariat, and in collaboration with UNEP, IUCN and the government of Rwanda, and with support from the MacArthur Foundation.
