Timeline
The FAO Mountain Products Programme was launched in 2003 with funding from the Government of France. Activities have been undertaken in three distinct phases.
First phase (2003-2004)
Second phase (2004-2005)
Current phase (2006-2007)
First phase (2003 - 2004)

Second phase (2004 - 2005)
During the second phase of the Mountain Products Programme, research was focused on the following regions: North Africa and the Middle East, the Andes, East Africa and the Hindu Kush Himalaya. In each region, FAO worked with institutional partners to select and analyse promising mountain products.
In North Africa and the Middle East, the selection and analysis of products was carried out by the IAM-Bari and IAM- Montpelier of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM).
In the Andes, the selection and analysis of products was led by Soluciones Practicas (Peru Office).
In East Africa, the selection and analysis of products was led by CAB International (Regional Office for Africa) .
In the Hindu Kush-Himalaya, the selection and analysis of products was led by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
Current phase (2006-2007)
The FAO Mountain Products Programme is now building on the information collected in the first two phases to develop regional information/Knowledge centres on high-quality, high-value mountain products. The Programme will also formulate and implement field projects in pilot countries for support to specific, promising mountain products.
