The Mountain Partnership is a voluntary, broad-based alliance whose membership includes 48
countries, 15
intergovernmental organizations and 88 major groups and NGOs.
Members are addressing the challenges facing mountain regions by tapping the wealth and diversity of resources, knowledge, information and expertise, from and between one another, in order to stimulate concrete initiatives at all levels that will ensure improved quality of life and environments in the world’s mountain regions.
Members of the Mountain Partnership come from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Near East and North America. View membership by region.

Profiles of country members
Action at the country level is vital for lasting change in mountain regions. Only countries have the power to implement national mountain strategies, to enact enabling policies and laws and to develop compensation mechanisms for environmental services and goods provided by mountain areas.
But countries with mountains cannot undertake sustainable mountain development in isolation. Lowland countries need also to be involved in mountain-related activities because of highland-lowland relationships and flows of investment.
