Working together for lasting change in
the world’s mountains
Action is at the core of the Mountain Partnership.
Concrete action by all members that will improve lives,
livelihoods and environments in the world’s mountain
regions.
This section introduces users to the Partnership
Initiatives. These are existing or new activities –
programmes, projects and studies – that are currently
being undertaken by members of the Mountain
Partnership.
By March 2004, members had identified a preliminary
set of Partnership Initiatives in several major areas of
mountain development, based on their common interests,
needs and priorities. They also suggested lead members
and groups to move these initiatives forward.
Partnership Initiatives focus on the following
thematic areas
and geographic areas
Other initiatives will be identified as the Mountain
Partnership evolves and networking and information
exchange allow new areas of collaboration and focus to
develop.
The Interim Secretariat for the Mountain Partnership
is currently organizing a series of workshops to help
members further develop the Partnership Initiatives.
These meetings will provide an excellent opportunity for
members and key resource persons to identify priority
areas and produce draft workplans and strategies for
action. These will be shared with all other members of a
given Partnership Initiative and eventually discussed in
a ‘breakout’ session dedicated to each Initiative during
the next full global meeting of the Mountain Partnership
(Cusco, Peru, 28-29 October 2004).
Tnis section is currently being developed, in
collaboration with the Mountain Forum, to provide an
inter-active information system on the Partnership
Initiatives. It will shortly include a database of
members, news, case studies, resources and links. |
