Jordan lists as its priority concerns for sustainable mountain development; soil erosion by water and landslides, deforestation, the degradation of natural habitats and of plant cover, groundwater depletion, and low community participation in the conservation of resources.

Forestry forms part of the country's agricultural policy which seeks to achieve the following; diversify forestry activities to meet people's needs, promote sustainable development land use and consolidation of forest land, and discourage practices that are environmentally unsound.
