Algeria

Algeria, with a total area of about 2.4 million km², is located in the north-western part of the African continent overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the north. It is bordered by Tunisia and Libya to the east, Niger, Mali and Mauritania to the south and Morocco to the west. The country can be divided into three physiographic units: the Atlas Mountains, the south and south-east hills, and the hilly coastal depressions. Algeria is the fourteenth largest oil reserve in the world and holds the fifth largest amount of the world's natural gas reserves. Yet the country has recently suffered many years of civil unrest, which has strongly affected the economy, living conditions and livelihoods of the Algerian population.
