Venezuela

In Venezuela the impact of the mismanagement of mountain territories is apparent. The indigenous Caracas walnut-tree is in danger of disappearing due to uncontrolled exploitation. Sustainable development needs to be implemented with particular care in these regions, taking into account the specificity of their geography.

More than 22% of Venezuela now falls within a protected area, including national parks, national monuments and biosphere reserves. One of the principal national parks, the Henri Pittier National Park in the Rancho Grande, is exceptionally rich in biodiversity.
