Activities and Achievements in Jamaica during International Year of Mountains (2002)
Jamaica established a national committee for the International Year of Mountains. Jamaica linked the two celebrations, International Year of Ecotourism and the International Year of Mountains and launched a series of projects focussed on the development of ecotourism on the island.
The Jamaican Conservation and Development Trust hosted an open day and 'Misty Bliss' fair and exhibition at the Holywell Recreational Area (24 February). The aim was to teach the public about the management of the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park. The exhibition illustrated aspects of recreation and ecotourism in the National Park as well as strategies adopted to reduce threats to the Park.
