A national Web site was created for International Year of Mountains at: www.mountain-lakes.org
In November 2000, Slovakia organized an International Conference, 'Sustainable Development - New Millennium Challenge', in which a National Sustainable Development Strategy for the Slovak Republic was proposed, as well as a Regional Agenda 21 for the Central Hron Watershed. Local sustainable development projects were also presented at the event.
In September 2001, a meeting was held in Kosice to present ideas for International Year of Mountains projects. This event was co-organised by the Carpathian Foundation and European Mountain Forum with the support of UNEP.
The recently launched campaign, 'Save the Natural Forest in Slovakia', aims to influence a change in legislation for greater forest protection.
