A growing concern for the Government of Slovakia is the need to protect mountain ecosystems, conserve biodiversity, and maintain and enhance the ecological stability of its forests, particularly in view of the pollution and other human damage that has been caused to its mountain areas. The Government is also concerned with creating new economical conditions for better utilisation of these areas.
