Liechtenstein

The Principality of Liechtenstein, situated in the Upper Rhine valley of the European Alps, has an area of 160 square kilometers and a population of over 33,000 people. The country borders Switzerland in the south and west and Austria in the east and north.

The floor of the Rhine Valley covers half of Liechtenstein, while the rest of the country is mountainous. Mountain ranges crossing the country from south to north are foothills of the Rätikon. The Eschnerberg at 730 meters stands in the valley, while the mountainous part in the east of the country is formed out of three high-lying valleys. The highest mountain is the Grauspitz at 2,599 meters (8,527 ft). This Alpine environment with its well-developed road infrastructure of up to 1,600 meters is a strong attraction for tourism in general and winter sports in particular.
