National Committee

A National Committee for the International Year of Mountains was comprised of five members:

The Committee identified these activities as priorities in the highlands of the country:

Preparatory Activities for the International Year of Mountains

Within the framework of for the International Year of Mountains, the Government established an Inter-Ministerial Commission to study development issues in the mountainous residential areas of the country. It began to draw up a national strategy for the sustainable development of mountain settlements, with activities planned for 2001-2002.

Activities and Achievements during the International Year of Mountains

During the International Year of Mountains, the Inter-Ministerial Commission presented a project formulation for sustainable mountain development in Armenia to FAO. The programme, formulated in June 2002, highlighted issues of:
