Activities and achievements during the International Year of Mountains

International:

A representative from Guinea participated in the African Conference on Mountains held in Nairobi (10 May). The theme of the Guinean presentation was 'Agroforestry and biodiversity in three watersheds in the Massif of Fouta Djallon'.

Interregional:

The '2nd Workshop and Discussion Group between agencies active in the Massif of Fouta Djallon' was held in Labé (30 July - 1 August). Delegates from Mali and Guinea Bissau were also present. The aim was to discuss the formulation of an integrated management programme to protect the environment and improve living conditions for the inhabitants of the massif.

National:

A national workshop on the problems facing the sustainable management of mountains was organized with the support of development partners.
